There are a lot of ways to experience adventure in the park. Those were some of the prominent caves in the park. This cave is so dak that most of the time skirmishes resulted to soldiers killing their own due to limited visibility. There were several battles happened in this cave this was the place where the Katipuneros drew the Spaniards and killed them. This cave or Yungib 1 has a narrow and long cavern inside. This was the place where the Katipuneros stored their foods, medicines, bullets, ammunition and other things that they were using during the fight. This Yungib III or the Imbakan Cave played a big role during the fight against the Spaniards. Outside these two ends were perfect hiding posts for spotters and snipers to ward off enemy presence. The cave was a perfect hiding place for recuperating Katipuneros (Filipino Revolutionaries) because it has a wide space between two unnoticeable ends. This was the dwelling of those people who got shoot or got ill during the skirmishes with the Spaniards. This cave served as the Hospital during the Katipuneros. This was said to be where the famous tradition of blood compact as part of the initiation to Katipunan. Tanggapan(reception) Cave served as the camp's reception area, where they used to accept and orient new recruits of the Katipunan before they were eventually immersed to the operation and introduced to the secret caves of Biak-na-Bato. This cave is a witness to the signing of Biac na Bato peace treaty. The enemy has to literally crawl through the low portal and would run smack against the waiting defenses of Aguinaldo's men. The cave has narrow but long entrance coupled with the existence of secret chambers can waylay intruders. This is where Katipuneros under the general from Cavite held office, and was also their fortress.

We only had a day to explore the area that we were not able to see the caves but to give you an idea, here are some of the prominent caves found in the park.

Out of the hundred caves found in the park, only 50 are open to the public and tourist guides said it would take 4 full days + one overnight stay to visit all 50 caves. Its where our soldiers took refuge, held secret meetings, stored their arms and cured their wounded during the revolution against Spain in 1897 that later became the seat of revolutionary government of the First Philippine Republic. Its basically cave network that served as a military base camp that played a very vital role in shaping our country's history News of Aguinaldo's arrival at Biak-na-Bato reached the towns of Central Luzon which encouraged armed men from neighboring provinces of Pangasinan, Zambales,Ilocos, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija to renew and step up their armed resistance against the colonizers.īiac na Bato is a 2,100 hectare national park that offers various ecological attractions including winding streams, waterfalls, thick forests and hundreds of caves which made it a suitable hideout for General Emilio Aguinaldo and other revolutionary fighters during the Spanish War. The group went on to evade capture and trek their way through the mountain ranges of Sierra Madre to reach Biac na Bato, San Miguel Bulacan where they establised their headquarters. It was in the year 1897 when around 500 revolutionaries led by the General Emilio Aguinaldo slipped-pass through a military cordone at Talisay, Batangas that aimed to capture the revolutionary leader. The place takes you back to the time our revolutionary forces took arms against their abusive colonizers for our freedom and independence. It was a great place to reflect, to reconnect with the past, knowing that the place had been instrumental to our identity as a nation.

I was not able to take some good photos as I was carrying my one yearold daughter most of the time during the trek but will be posting some of the few ones I took.

We had a good picnic by the stream as the kids enjoyed swimming in the cold waters. It took us a 3 hour drive from Metro Manila to get to the place and had to trek few meters of trail to reach some of the beautiful places in the area. Its a perfect retreat from the daily grind of metropolis. We had a great time, I thought i had to share it here. Looking for a good summer retreat, I took my family for an adventure to explore Biac na Bato (Halved Stone in translation) national park.

From where my daughter stands is a series of pristine rivers, labirynt caves and rock formations, a silent witness to the sacrifices of brave men and women who fought for our freedom and independence.
